By the 1770’s the thirteen colonies had become un-happy with their motherland of Britain. The colonists believed they were being taxed unjustly. Soon the bigger issues like political differences became obvious the thirteen colonies decided to declare themselves separate from Britain. The Continental Congress created a committee to write a draft stating the colonies had the â€Å"right to be independent states†(Shi and Mayer 2016, 104). The group designated Thomas Jefferson to be the main author. In analyzing this document we can see Thomas Jefferson’s The Declaration of Independence declared the United States of America as an independent, self-governing nation. It listed the complaints of the colonies about King George III, parliament, and justified the colony’s right to declare its freedom because of Britain’s infringement on democratic values. Jefferson’s document embodied the start of the ‘American Spirit’ and paved the way for the rights we as Americans enjoy today. Thus making this one of the most significant documents in American history. After he realized it probably wasn’t going to happen he got up and went through his usual routine in the morning. He woke up at 7:15 sharp, and brushed his teeth then combed his hair. He went downstairs, made a bowl of cereal, and poured some orange juice. After finishing his breakfast he then went upstairs to his bedroom. He didn’t realize it yet but he was about to discover something he never knew was there before. He walked into his bedroom and saw something he took a closer look at it he thought it was some kind of a secret door that matched his wallpaper. Out of curiosity he walked over to it and then opened it. He walked right into what he made out to be an attic. â€Å"How could this be in my room all this time without me knowing? † thought Mason. He looked around; all he saw was cobwebs and bookshelves. Mason was surprised to find one after about 20 seconds of looking. He flipped on the light switch and looked around. He thought what he was seeing kind of looked like an old library. He started looking at the books; he noticed the book he was looking at was published in 1877. Then kept looking and realized the newest book was from the 1930’s! After about 10 minutes of looking around he started hearing a noise. He kept hearing it; he thought it sounded like a dog bark. It began getting louder and louder. He started looking for the source, but soon after he gave up, and started looking at the books again. He was shocked by the rotation of another bookshelf after attempting to pull a book out. Out of curiosity he started looking around he saw another door, he opened it and it was the source! He couldn’t believe it, he was amazed by what he was seeing. It was a dog! An actual dog, Mason had always wanted a dog. He decided to call the dog Odie after his dad’s old dogs name when he was a kid. As Mason observed Odie’s behavior (still in shock from finding him), he noticed that it wouldn’t stop moaning so he paid closer attention. He looked in the direction Odie’s eyes were in. There was something glowing around the corner Odie was staring at. Mason went to check it out, Odie followed. â€Å"Hmmm nothing there† Mason thought to himself. After seeing nothing around the corner Mason decided he wanted to leave. As he headed back to the library he saw a strange figure emerging from the shadows, Odie growled. As it came closer Mason could tell it was a man. The man came close enough where you could see his face, after about 5 seconds of eye to eye contact Mason very calmly asked â€Å"who are you†? â€Å"It is not important who I am what is important is that you do not pass me† the man answered. â€Å"Why not† asked Mason. â€Å"Because I will be executed by my dictator he has been watching you for years, constantly pleading for a dog feeling sorry for yourself he is sick of it†! He told me himself he will execute me if I fail to keep you down here forever† the man screamed at Mason. Mason thought about what the man had said for about 3 seconds then mumbled to the man â€Å"not my problem† he then charged at the figure. â€Å"No stop†! The figure screamed as Mason bolted at the figure as fast as a cheetah. Bam! Mason ran right through the figure up the stairs, through the attic and back to the attic with Odie. He dashed like a lightning bolt back to his room. LATER THAT DAY Mason got to keep Odie when he showed his parents. Mason’s parents went to work, and Mason stayed home and played with Odie. As for the mysterious man his whereabouts are unknown.
